What’s new about the SafeSync software?
- It was time for a makeover so SafeSync has been improved and made more intuitive, with an easier to navigate structure and clearer settings
- The virtual drive has been replaced with a standard Windows or Mac folder to enable even more integration into the operating system
- Simply drag and drop files into your SafeSync Folder and have them sync to the cloud immediately
- Access your SafeSync Folder from any other device where the SafeSync client or mobile app is installed without any configuration
- Make any folder a SafeSync folder!
- No need to move files into the preconfigured SafeSync Folder…You can make any existing folder sync with SafeSync
- Simply right-click on the folder you want to sync and go to “Make this a SafeSync Folder”
- Confused about what caching was for in the old client?
- Now you can selectively sync folders to each of your computers so as not to consume too much space
- Client now supports Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and Native 64-bit support for Mac OS X 10.5 and higher
What is the difference between the SafeSync folder and the ability to sync any folder?
The SafeSync folder has now replaced the Virtual drive. It is a folder which enables you to drag and drop or save files into it directly.
Note- Any files saved or dragged into the folder will automatically be sync’d to the cloud and any other device the SafeSync folder is installed on. Any changes you make to files in the folder will be replicated on all the other SafeSync folders using your account.
What do you mean when you say “make any folder a SafeSync folder”?
Instead of dragging a folder or file into the SafeSync folder you can right click on the folder and “make this a SafeSync folder.” The advantage of this is you can continue to use your existing folder structure and save files as you have previously, such as saving photos to your “My Photos” folder. Any changes will be automatically sync’d to the cloud and other devices with the same SafeSync folder.
How does selective sync work?
You may not wish to synchronize all the files from the cloud down to that folder to save space and Internet bandwidth. Selective sync allows you to tell SafeSync which files/folders you want on each device. You can do this through the client management screen under “Sync.” Click on the “customize” link under the SafeSync folder and decide what gets sync’d.
What does the bandwidth control do?
The bandwidth control within the “Connection” tab lets you choose how much of your Internet connection SafeSync will utilize to sync your data to and from the data center. The default setting is to have it placed on the “Balanced” setting.
What speed does the bandwidth control restrict download/upload speeds to?
- Browse Faster – 4 Mbps down, 350Kbps up
- Balanced – 8 Mbps down, 750Kbps up
- Sync faster- unlimited Mbits down, unlimited Kbps up
Do I need to pay anything to get this new 5.0 upgrade?
No, this upgrade and additional functionality is included as part of your valid SafeSync license.
When can I upgrade to the new version of the client?
You can upgrade manually starting on November 15. You will be able to download the latest version of the SafeSync software client for Windows and Mac by signing in at
www.safesync.com and clicking on the ‘download’ link.
When does the automatic update of SafeSync occur?
The first group of customers will receive the automatic updates at the end of November, 2011.
Will I need to sync my data again?
No.
Will my configuration change when I upgrade?
When your software is upgraded all your settings will be kept as they were and you will continue to sync your data as before.
Note - Caching has been removed and now when you select customize on the SafeSync folder, within the sync section of the client management, you can define what gets saved to the local PC. Also, note that folder pairs will sync all files within that folder pair, so again no need to set caching.
Where is the EU data center and does it has any 3rd party certifications?
The EU data center is located in Munich, Germany. It is operated and controlled by Trend Micro, has ISO-27001 Certification, and a host of additional security features including SecureCloud™ encryption (Trend Micro’s flagship encryption).
When does the new EU data center start holding my data?
All new trial and full license customers that register within the EU on or after November 15 will have the data synchronized to the EU data center. Existing customers will continue to use the US data center.
What happens to EU customers who signed up for a trial or purchased a license before November 15, 2011?
All users who trial or purchased SafeSync before November 15 , 2011 will have their data synchronized to the U.S. data center. This will to continue to happen for the life of the trial or license.
Note - If a user started a trial before November 15 and then purchases a full license after that date, if they convert their trial account, they will continue to synchronize data to the US data center. If they create a new account with a new email address, they we have to re-synchronize again, but this will be sent to the EU data center.
What is SecureCloud and what does it do?
SecureCloud is a Trend Micro cloud-based encryption technology that enables the data that is synchronized to the cloud servers in the Trend Micro data centers to be encrypted, keeping it safe from unauthorized access and hackers.
- SecureCloud encrypts the data as it goes onto the server using 128-bit AES encryption.
- This happens automatically in the back ground and there is nothing for the user to do.
- This has been implemented in the EU data center and will be live November 15.
